This charming fishing cottage has been in our family for more than 30 years. We spent the long summer months here and every weekend that we possibly could, revelling in the easy freedom of this rustic spot.
You can hike through the forests, swim in the rivers, fish on the edge of the lake, picnic on what you've caught and fall asleep with hot faces from the open fires as our family have done for years and many more generations before us.
With no traffic, no television and no telephones we have preciously preserve the golden peace in this family home that feels like a step back in time. Keep with Irish traditions and tell stories by the fire and sing songs all night long.
The original farmhouse still stands, although the buildings are now used as outhouses for storage. You can still see the remains of the huge open fireplace, the flagstones on the floor and get an idea of how a family survived in this old country cottage generations ago.
The cottage was designed for our large family to share long hot summers together with friends and family. There are two main double bedrooms and a single large dormitory style bedroom between them to sleep children together.
The huge open plan kitchen and living room are not typical of a cottage and offer a cosy but spacious and social living space for groups of people, with views out over the fields and neighbouring farmlands.
The cottage is surrounded by working cattle and sheep farms and you can expect to share the company of the gentle dairy cows and the pet donkeys of the local farmer who always enjoy an apple or two if you won't share your breakfast with them.
The lane way ends at an enchanting forest where deer roam and which leads to the remote shores of Lough Mask with it's unique slab rock formations and beautiful waters.
