The island is the perfect family getaway destination. It offers an escape to a remote part of the world which is one of the last untouched places in the Indian Ocean and has outstanding natural beauty. There are a wide range of activities, everything from lounging in the sun to scuba diving with reefsharks.
The villas are very spacious, made of timber with palm thatched roofs, ocean-facing and are completely private commanding their own part of the beach. The main, ensuite bedroom adjoins the central decked lounge area as does the second bedroom, located to the rear of the villa which is quieter and perfect for sleeping younger children. The sun veranda to the front of the villa is equipped with luxury sunloungers and offers spectacular views of the turquoise Indian Ocean. The villas are designed to capture as much of the sea breeze as possible but there are overhead paddle fans in each room if required.
The thatched, open dining room is located in the main lodge which is a beautiful open-plan split-level building which stretches along the treeline taking full advantage of the ocean views. The sunset bar is aptly named and situated close to the water’s edge and there is also a restaurant on the south beach. All meals are prepared by expert chefs from locally sourced produce. If you have any special requests that don't appear on the menu, all you need do is ask and the staff will do their utmost to accommodate you. Dining is also available in your villa upon request or you can take advantage of your tropical location and have meals or family picnics on the beach. All meals and local wines and beers are included.
If you’re looking for a little more excitement there are plenty of options available. The island is a nature reserve, home to many varieties of tropical wildlife. Children and adults alike will be fascinated by the playful samango monkeys and there are over one hundred species of native, tropical birds. Or take the nature trip below the water with scuba diving lessons. Mozambique has been named one of the world’s top dive locations. It has excellent visibility, incredible underwater reefscapes, cliffs and the meeting of hot and cold ocean currents gives rise to an amazing variety of tropical sealife including sea turtles, dolphins, reefsharks and giant clams. There is also a spa and wellness centre on the island. They offer a wide range of treatments, some of which are completely unique to the island. The staff use blends of locally sourced minerals, sea salts and seaweed to create their beauty treatments. They also offer a full range of massage therapies and there is an Ashtanga yoga instructor on the island and at your disposal.
The island is a safe environment for children. The shoreline has very shallow, gentle waters for a considerable distance. All the bedrooms have mosquito nets around each bed despite Mozambique being an extremely low risk area. The PADI diving instructors are experts in their field and have equipment suitable for children. Babysitters can also be arranged with prior notice should you wish to have a more intimate meal or take a midnight beach stroll.
